Behind the Mask

Butoh-fu

Behind the mask.

Development of “Hanako’s face” like in the sculpture by Auguste Rodin. Flat and smooth like Bekko-ame, amber-colored candy.

Noses are narrowed to an extreme. The nose reaches down below the left cheek. It seems like the right eye is looking at a bird’s nest. The eye is completely aware of the left forehead and left ear.

You turn a little, you exaggerate the face, the nose becomes narrower.

Extreme fear in your eyes. You are looking at the back of the eyelids.

Explanation
The back of the Noh mask has a face that is completely different from that on the front. It is black, crushed, and melted.
